Towards a new Australian Art Song Resource

I’m very excited to announce a new project. As a specialist in Australian repertoire of many forms, and a collaborator with numerous Australian composers over the years, I have been introduced to a wealth of diverse and beautiful music. As both a performer and teacher I have sought to bring greater recognition to this music, including through Halcyon’s YouTube Channel and interview series In Conversation With…

Soprano Nicole Thomson and I met and performed together more than a decade ago in The Song Company and went on to form Flametree with pianist Jo Allan. Our shared love of Australian music and art song, alongside conversations with colleagues and our own research has made us realise there is a real need for a tool to assist teachers and students of singing looking for new repertoire. You can read more about the project and the ideas behind it here.

To develop this new resource we are keen to survey teachers of singing about their practice and experience. Whether you currently teach Australian art song in your studio or not, we would love to hear from you.
